Our Story
In 2014, Jordan Verdin took to the streets to assist the unhoused and document their stories through portraiture and journalism. This led to an archive of over 350 portraits and oral histories of individuals experiencing homelessness in San Diego.
From these interactions, Jordan identified two critical needs among the homeless population: the need to be seen and the need to be clean. To address these needs, Jordan began sharing the stories of those he met to combat invisibility and provided hand washing stations and wet wipes to combat the lack of hygiene. This eventually evolved into establishing Humanity Showers, a 100% volunteer mobile shower project that now provides over 2,000 showers per month in San Diego, Orange, and Los Angeles Counties.
Through this work, Jordan aims to build bridges between communities and promote a more just and equitable society by challenging the stigma and stereotypes that often accompany homelessness. By sharing the stories and experiences of individuals experiencing homelessness, he hopes to promote greater understanding and compassion and empower those who are too often marginalized and overlooked. We believe that every person deserves access to a shower and dignity, no matter what. We do this on the premise that it's every person's fundamental human right to have access to showers

Our goal is to support those in need, assisting them in our best capacity for a better quality of life. To do this, we collaborate with local groups to provide showers, haircuts, hygiene, food, and clothes. Local community members help fund our efforts.

Our mobile shower outreach operates on a volunteer and donation basis, meaning our resources and services may vary from event to event. However, we aim to provide a safe and welcoming space where individuals experiencing homelessness can access essential hygiene resources and other necessities. This may include access to hot showers, clean towels, toiletries, clean clothes, and food and water. We understand that the needs of those experiencing homelessness can be diverse and complex, and we strive to tailor our services to meet those needs as best as possible. While we may not be able to offer all the services listed at every event, we are committed to creating a supportive and inclusive environment that respects the dignity and humanity of each individual we serve.
Showers
Weekly we are providing 300-350 showers to folks experiencing homelessness.
Barber
We partner with local barbers and hairstylists to provide folks with quality haircuts.
Hygiene
We provide hygiene packs for each of our guests, including a brand new pair of socks & undergarments. When feasible, we also offer shoes and clothes.
relationships
We believe that recovery is a collaboration. That collaboration is best built by having quality interactions and friendships with those experiencing homelessness. These conversations are a vital way to learn about their needs and how to serve them better.
